corners, edged, burrs, and design features which could cause injury to personnel or damage to their clothes. The baked enamel finish shall be smooth, without runs, grit, wrinkles, tackiness, or separation of color. There shall be no defects that affect the appearance or serviceability of the stand.
3.7 Performance. The stands shall comply with the following requirements. Failure to comply with these requirements shall be cause for rejection.
3.7.1 Type I. The Type I stands shall comply with the following tests cited in ANSI/BIFMA X5.5 4- Top Loading, 5- Top Load Ease, 8- Out Stop, 10- Racking, 11- Drop, 12- Leg Impact, and 14- Tables Stability.
3.7.2 Type II. The Type II stands shall comply with the following tests.
3.7.2.1 Dropleaf test. The casters shall be retracted. The leaves shall be raised to the horizontal and supported by the leaf supports. A straight edge shall be placed across the stand top and extending to the outside edge of the drop leaf. The vertical measurement from the bottom of the straight edge to the top of the outside of the leaf shall not be greater than 3.8 mm nor shall the leaf support hold the leaf in a position higher than the stand top. The test shall be performed on both the right and left leaves. After this portion of the test is performed, a test load of 9.1 kg shall then be applied to each leaf for a period of five minutes. The load shall be evenly distributed in the area extending from the side edge of the top up to 51 mm of the end of the leaf. The entire load shall be concentrated on the leaf. Upon removal of the load and with the leaves still in the horizontal position, the vertical measurement shall be repeated. Any difference in the measurements taken before and after the weight was applied in excess of 1.6 mm shall be cause for rejection.
3.7.2.2 Static load test. The casters shall be retracted and the leaves dropped. Apply a weight of 90 kg for a minimum time of 5 minutes to an area not exceed 304.8 mm in diameter in the center of the top. Deflection of the top in excess of 3.8 mm during the test or a permanent set in excess of 1.6 mm of any part of the stand shall be cause for rejection.
3.8 Regulatory requirements. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials in accordance with Public Law 94-580, as amended, to the maximum extent practicable.
