2.2.2 Metal gauge.
2.2.2.1 Size 1. All exterior metal and shelves shall not be less than 20 gauge 0.8975 mm. Interior bracing may be of a smaller gauge. The exterior metal and shelves shall be formed on all sides or otherwise treated so as to eliminate cutting hazards.
2.2.2.2 Size 2. All exterior metal and shelves shall not be less than 0.5975 mm. Interior bracing may be of a smaller gauge. The exterior metal and shelves shall be formed on all sides or otherwise treated so as to eliminate cutting hazards.
2.3 Tops. Type I tops shall ne self-edged, high pressure (HP) laminated plastic on plywood or particleboard with a backing sheet on the bottom. The color shall be walnut grain per GSA sample No. FSS-L-01002. Alternatively, the manufacturer may provide his equivalent, commercial, walnut grain, HP laminated plastic, subject to the contracting officer’s approval. Overall thickness of the top shall be 19 mm minimum. Type II tops shall be steel.
2.4 Legs. The legs shall be a minimum 22 mm square, stainless or chromium plated steel, with a polished finish. They shall have adjustable glides and the exposed length of the legs shall be a minimum of 152 mm from the base frame to the bottom of the fully retracted glides. The glides shall be easily adjustable by hand. The glides shall have a minimum adjustment of 12.5 mm. The bookcase shall be designed so that the legs are attached to the case by other means than friction, to prevent the legs from falling out
2.5 Finish. The finish shall be semi-gloss baked enamel. Colors shall match Fed. Std. No. 595 black (27040), parchment (within the range delimited by 26586 and 26405), or gray (26134), as specified. Alternatively, the manufacturer may provide his commercial black, parchment, or gray baked enamel finish, subject to the approval of the contracting officer.
2.6 Assembly. The bookcases shall be fully assembled.
Shelves, legs and any attaching hardware may be shipped unattached but secured to the bookcase.
3. Performance.
3.1 Tests. The bookcases shall comply with the following tests which will be required as part of the First Article Inspection.
